UFC champ Jon Jones would rather face Brock Lesnar than Daniel Cormier in heavyweight move
If Jon Jones was presented with an equal opportunity to fight either Brock Lesnar or Daniel Cormier in a heavyweight bout, he said it wouldn’t be that difficult of a decision.

“I’d take Brock Lesnar,” Jones told reporters, including MMAjunkie, at UFC 235 media day. “I’d take Brock Lesnar because he brings in a whole different audience and people have already seen me make ‘DC’ cry twice already. I’ve got nothing against that guy. Let him have his heavyweight dominance.”

Heavyweight has always been a tricky topic for Jones, who puts his light heavyweight strap on the line against Anthony Smith (31-13 MMA, 7-3 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 235 pay-per-view headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. From the early stages of arguably the greatest career in company history, “Bones” has said competing in the UFC’s biggest weight class was part of his plans.

Jones’ opinion about making that move has evolved over the years, though. After regaining the 205-pound strap against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 in December, he expressed the desire to be busy in 2019 with multiple defenses of his belt.

He’s a more than 12-1 betting favorite against Smith, though, and there’s a desire to see him taking on greater challenges, such as a trilogy bout with heavyweight champ Cormier (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC). Jones has already beaten “DC” twice at light heavyweight, and he said going up to the division where Cormier has shown arguably his best work is a risk that deserves a significant reward.
“The reason why I think it would cost more for me is because Daniel Cormier is considered by most people, by some people I should say, as the greatest of all-time,” Jones said. “And to fight the greatest of all-time when he’s weighing 30 pounds more than me, it’s dangerous no matter who you are. I want to make it worth my while because ultimately my health is on the line.”

A third fight against his longtime rival seems more probable than current WWE superstar and champion Lesnar (5-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC), whose status remains somewhat of a mastery after being positioned as next to fight Cormier since July. Jones would like a piece of Lesnar himself, but if Cormier ends up being an eventual heavyweight opponent, the UFC champ said the promotion must cough up the dough.

“I don’t want to show my hand (of how much I want),” Jones said. “I’m sure the UFC would be like, ‘He said, what?’ It would have to make so much sense. The UFC just got bought for like $4.2 billion, so the money is there.”

I homestly feel like Jones is the reason we haven’t heard much about Lesnar lately. Its the fight the UFC wants. As soon as Jones got reinstated the Lesnar DC talk died. With Jones fighting Smith and Wrestlemania right around the corner it almost feels like the UFC is about to announce Jones VS Lesnar for August/September. Thats barring the upset of the year if Smith can do the unthinkable.

Mhhmmmm, yet it hasnt happened yet? Two of the biggest names in the UFC... if Jones asked UFC to fight Lensar it would have happened.
So a few things

He didn’t call out Lesnar here. He was asked if he would rather fight Brock or DC at HW. So I don’t think it has anything to do with Brock being tied up.

He DID call out Lesnar after he stiffened DC, but you know, the whole suspension thing fucks that up

Jon has been 'talking' about fighting at heavyweight for years. Again, if Jon wanted to fight Lesnar and he was clean enough to do so, it would have happened. Shit or get off the pot.

So he should have convinced the UFC to somehow let him fight Brock while suspended? That’s an...interesting opinon

Jon Jones Glad 'Scariest Dude Around' Anthony Johnson Retired

Jones visited the UFC Performance Institute in the lead up to his fight with Smith and ran into legendary striking coach Henri Hooft and former opponent and UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. Hooft has trained some elite strikers down in Florida in his time including knockout artist Anthony Johnson. Jones and Evans reflected on "Rumble" and the power he possessed during his time in the promotion (transcribed by BJPenn.com):

“Thank god that boy retired, I don’t know what got into him…” Jones said on Anatomy of a Fighter. “That weed must have been good! That made no sense, he was right there as the scariest dude around. He ain’t never getting down to light heavyweight again, thank god.”

“Rumble” has said in the past he would be open to a return to MMA although he only wants to fight Jones and at heavyweight. The pair were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 187 where Jones was to defend his title against ‘Rumble’ but it never happened, as Jones was stripped of his title after his hit-and-run incident involving a pregnant woman.

Jon Jones “has a feeling” he will fight Israel Adesanya
With that said, Jon Jones recently told TMZ Sports that “he has a feeling” he will eventually fight rising UFC star Israel Adesanya.

“I got a feeling me and (Adesanya) will eventually fight each other. I’d be excited for that challenge.”
Dana White 'would love to see' Jon Jones vs. Thiago 'Marreta' Santos after UFC 235
“I love the Thiago Santos fight,” White told reporters including MMAjunkie, at the UFC 235 post-fight news conference. “I love that fight. I would love to see him verse Jon Jones.”
Jon Jones not yet set on 'Marreta,' but won't deny title opportunities to young challengers
Following Jones’ win, UFC President Dana White said he’s keen on booking the next title defense against Brazilian knockout specialist Thiago “Marreta” Santos (21-6 MMA, 13-5 UFC).

Jones has said he wants to clean out the 205-pound weight class with an active 2019 schedule, and while he appears open to giving the opportunity, he did not commit to a specific matchup.

“Whoever it may be, I’m ready to take them all,” Jones said. “I think all these younger fighters should get their opportunity at a world title. When you’re sitting in my position, its like, who am I to deny people?

“I’m not going to talk ahead too much. I’m going to get with my coaches. We are a close, tight-knit family. This career is not mine, it’s all of ours. We’re going to talk about what we want next, who we want to fight next and just play it like that.”

Regardless of what happens next, Jones reiterated he’s in it to further prove himself as an all-time great in the sport. He was awarded one of the UFC’s newly-designed championship belts for his win, and he wants to keep it for a long time, adding red stones to the belt that represent successful title defenses.

“At the end of the day, I feel like this is my time, my era, and I was meant to be here to be a great, great champion,” Jones said. “This belt here is supposed to be covered in red rubies. And I got a new challenge to get this thing covered in red rubies – and that means I got to beat a lot of ass, and I’m up for the challenge.
