Maybe this Libertarian shit is good? I mean obviously Dim would be voting Trump if there wasn’t a Libertarian party. Hopefully they are taking Trump votes.

Met a another "libertarian" last night. He proclaimed he will be voting for trump because even he thinks bat lady is a lost cause. I'm certain at this point the real definition of libertarianism is ashamed republican.

Honestly most hardcore "Libertarians" prefer Vermin Supreme over her. They are also mad that she supports black lives matter. She doesn't support the organization, just the movement. They are also mad she celebrated a company firing someone for saying all lives matter, but that was false she never celebrated it or said she was for it. They also got mad when a veteran got shot down by a man who drove his car into a black lives matter protest. They are mad because she defended the man who got shot. So yeah, many "hardcore" Libertarians are ass hats.

Libertarianism is like communism: an ideal type that denies the realities of social and political organization.
Hardcore Libertarians just want to be left alone. They want to live their lives with no government interference. Most Libertarians I have talked to are realistic. They understand that things don't change over night and many of them like myself have views on both sides of the political spectrum. Most are fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I swear a libertarian just equated Libertarians to racists who prefer to vote for a guy with a boot on his head.
I don't agree with the hard core Libertarians. They take personal freedoms to the extreme. They don't care if you are racist, I do. They got mad at Jorgensen and Cohen for telling people it isn't ok to just not be racist, you need to be anti- racist. They don't like anyone telling them what to do They just want to be left alone and live their lives with no one impeding on them, especially government.

Libertarian: the government shouldn't be able to interfere with my life. We should be free to govern ourselves.

Also Libertarian: I work for one of the largest financial institutions in the country.

If the Libertarian ideals were a real thing they wouldn't be running for the highest government office in the country. They would be farmers and others that lived exclusively off the land. You cannot work for a bank and scream that you hate big government. You cannot be the fucking president of the united States and say you hate big government. People who protest wealth inequality do not seek to become billionaires so they can stop evil billionaires.

I find it hard to believe that all trump supporters are dumb racist people. Just like I find it hard to believe that all Democrats are intolerant of other people’s views.

people in this thread are really intolerant of other people’s views and opinions and come across like there beliefs are golden.

there are good people on each side and should be able to discuss things without name calling.

It's almost as if sweeping generalizations are somewhat true to their namesake? And intolerance towards people's views is completely contextual. If those views are in opposition to things like civil or human rights.. then intolerance seems like it could be somewhat warranted.

Not that I want to sound like an extremist. Or an alarmist. Or a Fascist. Or a Leninist.

I, on the other hand, do not find it hard to understand that Trump supporters can be racist, can be sexist, ignorant, hateful, and violent.. while thinking they're good people. Because women can be sexist against other women. Gay people can be homophobic. Immigrants can be anti-immigrant. And every race can be racist towards their own race.

These sort of contradictions unite the whole of humanity. Part of the Trump appeal is attacking the would-be progress of younger generations. To do this older, whiter, richer America has mortgaged our Democracy for the interests of private enterprise with the hope that when they get rich, "we" get rich.

That's all America is Clark. One big get-rich-quick-or-die-trying advertisement. And like any good Casino (reference those not owned by the Trump corporation) boy oh boy does the house win big. And often. Big and often. Like American waist lines.

So intolerance can be healthy. Especially towards uninformed, unsupported, emotive, and irrational viewpoints. And let's not be too judicious with our use of "good person". People who could qualify such thing..

They're in extremely short supply and busy at the moment.

If you come into a political thread spouting nonsense and posting memes you should expect to be challenged on it. You get what you ask for discussing politics.

I think it’s completely warranted to shit on racist people, or homophobics, sexists and people like that. We shouldn’t tolerate any of that. We live in a time we’re those things shouldn’t be an issue but sadly they still are.

I do think there are many trump supporters who are those things but that isn’t all of them. Same goes for democrats.
I know a lot of republicans that are great people and same with democrats. But I also know some dipshit ones.

This is why broad generalization are problematic especially when the person casting them, doesn't understand that they're using broad generalizations. All people have their own self-interest and most are innocuous. When we form groups, be they political or ideological or otherwise, we amplify general ideas. Because general ideas and the symbols used to represent them are super fucking easy to digest.

That's why so many poorly defined, ambiguous, yet detrimental ideologies have taken root. They've got catchy symbology or memes or have an emotional junk food quality to them that make people want to champion lost causes. Take the flat Earth movement, or climate change denial, or Eugenics, or most religions. These are practical philosophy dead ends. They're steeped in generalizations that when you apply a microscope or you try to work out the particulars, everything falls apart and you're left with something that leaves you no capacity for a way forward.

I stand by the assertion that Trump has no political platform, no guiding ethics or morality. He simply exists for praise and attention. In that way he embodies a partially realized fantasy of many Americas which is being rich and powerful is great! Trump will use any ideology to facilitate his needs. He paints in broad strokes because it easier to disseminate and it's easier to allow people to read in their own meaning, whether they love or hate him.

He's no master of it. It's just that the sources and mediums that amplify our generalizations and stereotypes has never been greater. But extremes in general are always going to lead to the abuse of people, the environment, and the dissolution of protects SOOOOoooooo many have tried to build over years and years.

The water that keeps eroding those foundations starts with broad generalizations about groups of people by groups of people.
