I read somewhere, in a couple places actually, that people are calling on Marvel to abandon the Punisher/Frank Castle character and his signature skull logo after these dumb, racist cunts were seen using the logo at the Capitol riots. What a crock of shit. These assholes need to pick another character to exploit. Frank Castle ain't about that shit.

This is a massive structural problem. We've seen some indication of the amount of white supremacists involved with both police forces and the military. How the hell do you remedy that? Also, the idea that because you own a gun, you can determine things politically and societally by threat of force, or actual force, shows how off-base this idea of constitutionally protected gun ownership is.

You're not entitled to anything "extra" if you own or carry guns. Your voice doesn't carry more weight. You're not exempt from having to present credible and rational arguments in support of your positions. Yet as we have seen play out in the last year or two, this is what gun ownership means to many people from the right-wing. You've seen it in comments from various so-called politicians and "leaders" as well—from the top down.

Something needs to be done in terms of both changing the laws as well as prosecuting the individuals and organizations that are violently threatening others (whether those threats are implied or overt).

I think context is key. If he got those tattoos 10 years ago, and 5 years ago some racist fucks adopted it, can it be held against him? (I’ve never seen that associated with racism until now)

Honestly, to an extent, you can’t. The military is just a reflection of society. Eventually in the military they get caught it just takes time. The biggest issue is the “no snitching” mentality

This has been coming for a while. Ever since military and police adopted the logo for their gear I've had a hard time enjoying the character. The premise of the Punisher is that law and order doesn't exist, so he's got every right to kill each and every criminal he comes across without prejudice, and that's fine for a character and I love the character. But when actual police and soldiers start cosplaying this guy while they have the power to execute people with minimal accountability, it sickens me. The creator, Gerry Conway has come out against it too, and Marvel wrote it into one of their storylines, but it's not like the people using the symbol read that. To them, he's just a cool guy with a lot of big guns that gets to kill whoever he wants.

There's a simple solution to this issue. Marvel should recast the character as a black woman. Problem solved.

Black Trans non-binary preferably.

The Punisher is too cliche to even be cliche at this point. I've been complaining about guy-with-a-gun movies since the start of the movie review thread. It's not just The Punisher but Liam Neeson, Bruce Willis, Keanu Reeves, to a much lesser degree, Stephen Segal, but also Denzel Washington, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron. Person with a gun saves lives porn.

Before them Stallone, Arnold, Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, James Cagney. Not a new paradigm.

The reality is Columbine, Virginia tech, Chicago ghettos, Sandy Hook, El Paso, Orlando Nightclub, Boston Bombers, DC shooter, gang violence, police violence, church violence, and suicide.

That's your gun culture. School drills, the lives of American children at risk every day, the lives of black and brown citizens at risk every day by police, the constant threat of a spree shooter, the constant fear of some asshole with a gun and a grievance targeting people for some reason.

Because guns are fun bro. You could be a hero! You won't. And you put your neighbors and society at large at risk but hey.. fuck it right?

It irritates me that dumb fucks co opt something and all of a sudden it becomes a symbol of hate when it wasn’t the intent. It’s the adage of some dumb ass going and ruining it for everyone else.

The Punisher is my favorite Marvel character by a pretty wide margin. I don’t want it ruined by dipshits doing dipshit things.
