Debunked: "Socialism Has Never Worked" (1 Viewer)

Can't watch the video because I'm at work, as usual, but a lot of arguments such as this involve people on both sides of the debate baiting and switching between connotations of the word "socialism." At one moment, the term refers to any program or institution which the public pays for collectively so that it serves everyone equally, and the next moment it's referring to a system where the entire concept of profit (and sometimes even private property) is eliminated. The left likes to defend the latter by pointing to the former, and the right likes to attack the former by pointing to the latter.
[DOUBLEPOST=1505190732,1505136873][/DOUBLEPOST]I finally got to watch the video, and it always makes me laugh when partisan ideologues try to foist their own side's authoritarian nutbags onto the other side. Right wingers have been trying to claim that the Nazis were actually leftists basically forever, and here's Pakman trying to claim that basically every failed communist state was actually right wing. It's laughable.

I think it's safe to say that any social/political/economic system, whether from the right or left, will be plagued with the inherent greed and other ills of human beings.

Unfortunately, you can't communicate that to someone who has swallowed the hook; they'd rather post random videos, articles, and opinions.

well can you be a liberal and be a totalitarian? like name me some ultra left liberal totalitarian states?
The nazi's weren't Liberal, it was more a fascism totalitarianism regime, which belongs more to the right wing of the political spectrum. So he is not totally off.

A liberal? No. A leftist? All day long.

The USSR. When you eliminate the concept of profit and property and instead start telling people what they need and deserve because fairness, you're an authoritarian leftist.

The Nazis were neither leftist nor liberal. They were authoritarian social conservatives. The Soviets were illiberal leftists, because they tried to engineer by force what they saw as a society of complete equality.
[DOUBLEPOST=1505271203,1505271126][/DOUBLEPOST]This is the whole reason you have to conceive of political ideologies as at least two separate axes -- one for progressivism/conservatism, and another for liberalism/authoritarianism.

I truly wish people understood that this stuff isn't linear. Whatever theory you ascribe to, be it horseshoe or whatever, there's a point on the spectrum where both so-called ideologies become totalitarian, authoritarian and completely "immoral" for lack of a better term.

I've decided that I'm a politically non-binary and subject-fluid individual.

I really hope aliens come and wipe us all out, it's what we all deserve.

Or better yet let the machines rise and kill us all, that's a more fitting way to go. I saw a meme of a guy that was using his Iphone to facetime a pot of water he was boiling while he played video games in another room.... Yep we deserve to be slaughtered and raped by a fucking army of T100's

I won’t argue with any of that BUT.....I really hope that one of the alien rapists gets AIDS & carries it back to its homeworld, passes it on to its sexual partner who then goes on to spread it to the variety of sexual partners it was having affairs with whilst its original partner was away on Earth raping & murdering all of us & wipes them all out too, just because I’m a bit like that.
