Benson Henderson to meet Myles Jury in Bellator 227 headliner

It didn’t take long for Myles Jury to land himself a high-profile fight in Bellator.

Less than a week after it was announced that the 12-fight UFC veteran had joined the promotion, Jury (17-4) is scheduled to meet former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (27-8) in the main event of Bellator 227 on Sept. 27, which takes place in Dublin, Ireland. MMA Fighting confirmed the bout with officials after Jury made the announcement to ESPN.

A previously announced bantamweight matchup between James Gallagher (9-1) and Cal Ellenor(8-2) has been given headliner status on the Bellator Dublin card that takes place on the same day. Similar to how the recent Bellator London/Bellator 223 card had a double headliner of Gegard Mousasi vs. Rafael Lovato Jr. and Paul Daley vs. Erick Silva and was broadcast through multiple outlets, Bellator Dublin/Bellator 227 will follow a similar schedule.

The Bellator Dublin card will also air on Sept. 27 with the prelims and main card (featuring Gallagher-Ellenor as well as a previously announced welterweight bout between Michael Page andRichard Kiely) on the Bellator app. The Bellator 227 portion will air on tape delay in the U.S. on Paramount Network and the DAZN streaming service and will feature the Henderson-Jury fight.

After starting his pro career 15-0, Jury lost four of his last six fights in the UFC before parting ways with the promotion. He will be returning to lightweight after competing at 145 pounds in his last four appearances.

Henderson is currently on a three-fight win streak, most recently earning a split nod over Adam Piccolotti. He is 4-3 in the Bellator cage, including failed bids for the promotion’s lightweight and welterweight titles.

Wednesday, a promotion official confirmed to MMA Junkie the booking is being “targeted,” but is not finalized at this time. Fansided MMA was the first to report the bout.

Bellator 227 will take place Friday, Sept. 27 at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The event will simulcast on tape delay in the U.S. on Paramount and DAZN. The Bellator Europe 4 portion of the card will stream live in the U.S. on MMA Junkie.

Two flyweight champions are set to face off at Bellator Dublin on Sept. 27 at the 3 Arena as WWCF champion Blaine O’Driscoll meets EFC champion Jake Hadley.

Bellator confirmed the flyweight bout to MMA Fighting on Thursday.

O’Driscoll (7-2-0) is coming off his title capture in the Ukraine when he stopped highly touted champion Teimur Rahimov in the third round via rear-naked choke. The well-rounded SBG proponent will make his Bellator debut on the night, having previously campaigned under the BAMMA banner. O’Driscoll was on the verge of fighting for the Cage Warriors flyweight title last year before former champion Nathan Greyson’s 11th-hour withdrawal.

Hadley (4-0-0) is coming off his EFC title winning performance over celebrated African fighter, Nkazimulo Zulu, which he secured just 14 months into his professional career. “White Kong” debuted as a pro in February 2018 on the back of a considerable amateur run. As well as his win over Zulu, the British fighter has claimed wins over Daryl Grant, Adrian Molenda and Reece Street. Hadley is also set for his Bellator debut when he faces O’Driscoll.
