The first Criminal book in 4 years came out today and I just read that. It's awesome, of course. I'm loving Sex Criminals and the show could be a lot of fun. Got the first 2 volumes of Lazarus, but only read 1. Also got Powers, Black Science, and the final Fatale on the shelf. I've had the last Fatale book since it dropped a few months ago, haven't read it. I feel like I need to pour myself a nice vintage and light some candles for that one. Same with the first 4 issues of The Fade-out. Saga vol. 4 on the shelf, too.
Shit weather's keeping me inside lately, so i'm picking shit off
just finished volume 1 of Sex Criminals. really liked it. weird as shit, but loved it. also read one of Bendis' first books called "Fire," a b&w spy-noir. got his Jynx hardcover and Saga lined up to read. still waiting for that Velvet trade to drop. Fatale is continuing to kick ass. have you read any yet?
have you read Saga by Brian K Vaughan? i just finished the new Fatale and i don't want to wait for Sex Criminals or Velvet, so i ordered the first two volumes of Saga and should be getting them within the week.
i don't know a single thing about the book except Vaughan did Y the Last Man and some episodes of Lost, so i'm excited to read a book i know nothing about. i'm doing the same thing with Sex Criminals and Velvet, too. just waiting for the trades to come out. need to get back into Locke & Key, too. haven't read past the first book.
heard great things about Sex Criminals, so i'll be checking that out one day. as for Pilgrim, i think its amazing, but its hardly dark, at least not til the last book, and its more a fun, coming of age kinda series rather than psychologically stimulating. haven't read a GN since the last Fatale came out, so i'm a bit outta the loop right now.
glad you're finally checking out anime. only advice i have is to not be afraid to cherry pick. there's a lot of stuff you'll hate, i'm sure, and a lot that won't be for you, but there's some great, great storytelling in anime.
but yeah, Maleev? nothing close. guy's the best artist in comics as far as i'm concerned. i like Sean Phillipps, i like Steve Epting, and a few other people, but Maleev is THE BEST. and he works exclusively with Bendis. they're such a great team
ive heard great things about Scalped but havent read any. i loved the first book of Fatale and need to pick up book 2 soon. you should check out Bendis' run on Sam & Twitch. awesome shit. that's probably the last thing ive read that wasnt Brubaker or something ive already recommended to you. Sam & Twitch is about two New York cops in Spawns universe, so its a crime series, but its got supernatural elements to it, and its written so well. i believe that was the start of Bendis teaming with Alex Maleev, as well. easily my favorite team in comics. outside of that, ive most read monthlies in the mainstream Marvel superhero realm, which i love but im not too sure how much youre into. Broob's run on Cap just came to a close, which is incredible. if you want to start collecting that, its definitely worth your time. its mostly Spy-Fi and very SHIELD based, which works great for the Cap character. oh, and its Brubaker and he wrote it for 8 or 9 years straight, so yeah, its awesome.
only read the first issue, but i liked what i read. Millar's the kind of writer that i either love or hate, and its probably a 1:1 ratio of that, but if the first issue was any indication of the rest of the series, its worth checking out.
I read Fatale, and was a little lost to be honest, but im almost done rereading it and I caught the couple things I had missed early on, and its really good. only 5 chapters out of 12 in the book, though, so its hard to judge it against Criminal since its incomplete. definitely recommend it, though. its only $8 on amazon right now.
just picked up the first trade for Fatale, Brubaker and Phillipps' new supernatural noir. haven't read it yet, but i haven't looked forward to a book this much in a very long time. i recently read the 5th and 6th books of Criminal and just can't get enough of this team. best in the business.
