finals of the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament here class A and AA.
Pretty good hockey for high school kids.
Duluth is the only team north of the Minneapolis Metro left in the tourney.
That's going to by my pick.

Hurry up and join Canada already. Bring Alaska with you. I don't want to have to show my passport anymore to kill salmon.

That's why I avoid news on results where I can so that I can catch up on Bellator and other fights.

Just watched Velasquez-Werdum again; I was so fucking amped to see Fabricio win that. The end of that 2nd round was fucking riveting; MMA<33333333.

In terms of the result, or the competitiveness of the fight?

Manner of result predominantly. The mistakes Werdum made and the way Stipe capitalized were quite appealing to me.

    i've got a rant.

Back in the days we mostly started getting to know each other (at news, for the people that were here that came over when PD, Clint, Sandy, and Brian started this place), the best fights seemed to be the people that were mostly the best fighters. the UFC has always done cash grabs but they seemed to cater more to the fights than the fanfare (maybe i'm wrong, but it felt that way).

At some point they changed and focused much more on getting fareweather fans than on making fights for the fans that were seriously into mma.

that evolved little by little till the point they increased the events monumentally, watered down the cards and started focusing much more on hyperbole than the fights we should see.

We talked about this back then. AFter TUF when the UFC started blowing up, we all had discussed whether it was good or not to become 'mainstream' because they would focus more on those fad fans than the real fans.

Well, if that's not what we have now, explain what it is? We still get fights we want, but rarely see truly stacked events. we had one last month but it felt rare.

the UFC went from 80 fights in 2005 to 503 in 2014 that's more than 600% in 9 years. in that time the whole feel for the sport has changed.

Back then I so wanted more cards, got so excited for everything.

Then I got more and more cards, till I didn't even know who's fucking fighting half the time.

    I miss being excited.

I used to wake my wife up all the time, she says I never hear you cheering anymore.

We have to remember that the UFC changed in those 9 years, but dude we've all gotten older too and we have changed.

I say this a lot, but having to wait months for a big show sucked but it was so fucking awesome starting the week before. Always reminded me of the anticipation of a kid the week before Christmas. Way back when they didn't do press conferences, or there was 20 people in the room when they did. They didn't show weigh ins on tv. you just had to wait. people would leak little tid bits and the forums would just fucking light up.

Then fight day it seemed like we'd all sit down hours before it started and went over the hype, had last minute arguments and the entire day became an event. Afterwards the UG, sherdog and news would be going cvrazy with 'did you fucking see xxxx?'

it went long into the night and we'd all come back and talk the whole day about it. it would dominate the conversation for weeks after.

There's something to be said for having so much MMA, but it sure took away the build up and anticipation we used to love. it wasn't just a PPV, it was a weeks long fuckin event

remember rings, kotc, dream, etc? then remember when the streams in the early days were almost unwatchable, and hung forever?
