Shit as soon as I take over as full time owner, I can get you the hookup on anything that is within a month of expiring. My uncle is still part owner, I get 80% he gets the difference, I am in the process of buying him out though.

After the expiration date, I just give shit away. The manufacturer have all basically stated that they are good for 6 months to 1 year after the exp. date. The thing is there usually isn't a whole lot of stuff that gets to that point, because my guys push selling it and it is put on 50% off clearance. Some companies make us ship it back and give us a new shipment.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 12 (1-16-09)

Hey everyone. I got home from work a little while ago and I have to say, I am glad to be sitting in my warm house away from the frigid atmosphere outside.

For breakfast today, I had a bowl of Captain Crunch as always. Then when I got to work, I had a quick lunch. I had a hot dog and a Diet Coke. For dinner, I had a half a bowl of broccoli soup with an Iron Grilled Turkey Sandwich and a small Cherry Arctic Rush. I am currently drinking a bottle of orange G2, and will be finishing my day with all 31 of my available points.

You know, today was the first day since I started my diet that I had a really intense craving for ice cream. I have had cravings since starting, but they are usually for fried foods, not sweets. It was pretty unbearable for a little while trying to convince myself that I did not want or need to indulge myself by eating any type of frozen treat, but now that I am home I am glad and relieved that I was able to fend off my appetite and stick to my healthy eating. I know when I step on the scale on Monday, I will be happy I was able to make those types of decisions.

Tomorrow, however, I may go a little bit above my points range though since there will be a fight on pay-per-view, and we always order pizza from Joe's for these events. I will try to eat the smallest amount of points I can prior to the event, as I would like to be able to make the diet work even with the pizza. But just in case I can't make it work, I may have to dip into my extra points. I probably won't post my blog tomorrow night until about midnight or so, since I will be occupied by the fight, but I will definitely make sure I get it posted. Keep reading, and I'll keep writing.

I'm not working out yet. When you eat a very large amount of food per day like I was doing, your stomach actually expands to accomodate the higher intake. That's why after a while, the same amounts of food just don't satisfy you.

When you diet, your stomach shrinks. As you can probably figure, that is why it is so difficult to get the ball rolling on diets since your reduced food intake obviously doesn't satisfy your enlarged stomach. When your intake doesn't satisfy your hunger, and you choose not to eat any more than your diet allows, you become pretty weak as a result.

So what I planned to do from the onset of this diet is give myself two to three weeks before I started working out to allow my stomach to shrink a bit and for my new intake to satisfy my hunger, thus leaving me with more energy to spend on exercise. I do teach a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class on Wednesdays though, so that gives me a little bit of activity in my routine.

As for the diet, it works like a charm. The last time I was on this diet, I lost 60 pounds in 4 months, and kept it off for two years or so until I got my job at Dairy Queen. You can find the books at Barnes and Noble if I'm not mistaken. You will want a couple of the beginning books and a points slider or points calculator if possible. It is an extremely simple diet, since you are allowed to eat whatever you want as long as it fits into your points range. As I mentioned in one of my blogs, one day I ate 2 Sausage McMuffins for breakfast, 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and white grapes for lunch, and a cheeseburger with hash browns for dinner. I mean just read the things I have been eating....it is baffling that this can even be considered a diet. So basically, you don't have to give up your fast food, just make sure you are not going overboard. You mentioned Burger King earlier. At Burger King, you could have a single cheeseburger for 8 points with a small fry for six, giving you 14 points. Since you weigh about the same as I did when I started, you would have the same amount of points as I do, so you could have up to 17 more points on top of that. You can fit anything into your diet, although you do have to plan around certain things.

Yes, I was getting really hungry at work, especially for the first week or so. Since I work at a Dairy Queen, and I fucking LOVE Dairy Queen food, it is downright agonizing at times. The thing that helps me stay away from snacking really has been shifting my focus from dieting for better physical appearance to dieting for better overall health. I can do without abs, but I can NOT live with diabetes or heart problems. Plus when I give in to my cravings, at night when I am settling in I always feel terrible that I didn't have any more will power. Here's a passage from one of my blogs that kind of sums it up:

"Making the right dietary choices is tough, but when the flavor fades away, the pride of accomplishing something towards a personal goal stays intact. The same cannot be said of milkshakes or any other food item that has been nixed from my routine, as once they are gone and the momentary fullfillment follows in turn, I feel nothing but shame and regret at the lack of self control I displayed by simply engorging myself with their rich, indulgent flavors. What I am saying is that while I believe looking at the present is the best way to diet, sometimes looking past the moments in which you are actually eating and focusing on why you are making the choices you are making is the best way to avoid missing some of your favorite dishes."

I hope this information helps guys.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 13 (1-17-09)

Hey everyone. I just got done watching the fights, and I have to say they were pretty crazy. I'm not sure if that's really a good thing though. They just seemed a little bit wild tonight. There was a big upset and a couple of pretty close fights, which is usually pretty exciting...but I don't know about these. They just didn't have the same luster they often do.

As far as my diet goes, I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a barbecue sandwich with just a very small amount of chili for lunch. I had 15 points by that time, and once I got home from work I had a bottle of Corona for 3 points. I would say I ate right around 18 points worth of pizza and breadsticks with a G2 to drink. I finished with 37 points, just a few points above my daily limit, but when you factor in the extra points that I am allowed, I still didn't do too bad at all.

That's it for tonight everyone. Check back tomorrow, and if you are a football fan like I am you will be watching the conference championship games tomorrow. I am predicting Baltimore and Arizona to go to the Super Bowl. We'll see how it goes though, as I have learned that in sports there is no such thing as a sure thing.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 14 (1-18-09)

Hey again everyone. Did you all watch the NFC and AFC conference championship games tonight? I have to say, I am extremely excited that the Cardinals won, and equally as upset that the Steelers made it through. I can only hope that Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald dissect the Steel Curtain on Super Bowl Sunday and bring home the championship rings.

As far as the diet goes, you all know by now what I eat for breakfast every day so I don't need to tell you. For lunch I had two Buddig ham and swiss cheese sandwiches with fat free Ruffles potato chips and Crystal Light fruit punch, and for dinner I had two chicken questadillas with a bottle of G2. I had another G2 later in the night and finished the day with 30 out of my 31 allowed points.

Tomorrow is Monday, and as some of you know that means I will be weighing in for the second time since starting my diet. I am kind of nervous, and am not expecting to weigh what I did in the middle of the week because I ate a pretty good amount of pizza and breadsticks last night. Then again, I technically didn't break my diet in doing so, since I do have those bonus points at my disposal now. One of the crazy things about dieting is the unpredictability of your weight fluctuations. You can either get lucky and weigh on a down day, or go the other way and catch yourself a bit heavier than usual. The key is to not get discouraged, and to know that even if I weigh in at 234 or so, which would be one more pound than I weighed earlier this week, I would have still lost 4 pounds since the previous week's weigh-in. I guess we will find out tomorrow morning, and I will post my updated weight before I go to work at 11:00 A.M.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 15 (1-19-09)

Hey everyone. Sorry I missed posting another blog. I figured I'd just post yesterday's blog today.

For breakfast yesterday I had a bowl of Captain Crunch as always. I made some sandwiches to take to work, as I am trying to weed fast food out of my diet slowly but surely. I made two Buddig ham and swiss cheese sandwiches and had a bottle of diet Lipton green tea with citrus to go with it. By this point, I was at 13 points for the day. For dinner I had scrambled eggs. I used one full egg with two additional egg whites, and one slice of 2% cheese melted over them. I had some hash browns and toast to go along with my eggs, and I was at 21 points by this time. Later in the evening, I had one of my awesome mixed drinks, a UV Cherry Pepsi.

I finished the day with 24 points, two shy of my daily minimum of 26, which means I get to carry two points over to my diet tomorrow. What that means is that while my minimum points allowance will still be 26, I can have up to 33 if I so choose. Since tomorrow is my first day back at school, I think I may need them.

    Weigh-in - Week 2

Good news everyone. I stepped on the scale this morning and weighed in at 233, just as I had at the middle of the week. Considering my dietary discipline was sketchy this past weekend, with eating pizza and taco bell, I am happy to have stayed at that weight. I didn't technically break my diet in any way, but there are certain foods that just don't cater to a diet the way others do.

At any rate, this means I have lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. If I can continue to lose at least 3 pounds per week, I will feel like I am on a good pace. Next week, I will be shooting for 230, but I will certainly take anything lower. I would have posted this yesterday (Monday) but I slept through my alarm clock and had to get right up and head to work, leaving me with no time to weigh in the morning. Keep checking back everyone.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 16 (1-20-09)

What a historic day. It is incredible to know that I witnessed such a defining moment in our nation's history within my lifetime. It is one of those moments that comes along once in a very great while, and one I certainly am not taking for granted. I am happy to say that I voted for Barack Obama, and that is something I am sure I will tell my grandchildren some day. I am still taken aback by the magnitude of this achievement.

It seems trivial with such a momentous occasion having taken place on this day to even talk about my diet, but this is the task that I have set out to do, and I plan to stick with it. For breakfast, I had my normal bowl of cereal for 7 points. I woke up later in the morning, and then had to leave for class so I didn't really have time to eat anything for lunch. I did have a bottle of diet Lipton green tea with citrus, and the good news is I can drink as many of those as I want since they are 0 points a piece. Around 4:00 PM or so, I ate an early dinner at Panera with Ashleigh. I had half of an Italian Combo sandwich with no sauce or any other additions for 9 points, a bowl of chicken and wild rice soup, which is incredible by the way, for 8 points, and a piece of french bread for 3. I also had a lemonade for 3 points. I was at 30 points at this time, and when I got home I had a piece of that diet root beer cake I had mentioned before for 1 point. This put me at 31 for the day, and a bottle of G2 later in the evening would out me at 32, but since I got to carry 2 points over from yesterday, I still finished 1 point under my maximum.

It is going to be extremely difficult to diet while attending college this semester. The most convenient place to eat while going to class is the Campus Cafe, but the food there is not exactly diet friendly. They have a very small handful of food items that I can actually eat without destroying my progress, and I will likely be avoiding eating there at all costs. Anything I can do from taking my own food, to eating at a restaurant where I know the points values for foods, or even eating a late breakfast or early lunch just to miss a meal in the middle of the day is going to help me avoid overeating. Missing a meal is not exactly wonderful for you, but if I eat a large enough meal to compensate for the one that will be removed, it should balance quite well. Overall, this is going to take quite a bit of game planning and will power. It should provide for some interesting blogs.

    Weight Loss Blog - Day 17 (1-21-09)

Another late blog, I know. Is it getting old yet?

For breakfast yesterday, I had a bowl of cereal for 7 points. Then for lunch I had a barbecue sandwich, half a bowl of chicken and dumpling soup, a cup of applesauce and a G2 for 12 points. For dinner, I had a cheeseburger and hash browns for 8 points, leaving me with 27 points total. I had a few points left, so I had a UV Cherry Pepsi later in the evening, which I am growing increasingly fond of.

It is interesting to me that not only am I not craving some of the foods I have cut from my routine on a regular basis, but that I am finishing most days with points to spare. I guess this blog is helping me more than I originally thought it would. Now that I have put myself out there for everyone to read about, I feel like I want to lose weight for personal reasons, but also because if I don't lose weight, I have been wasting all of your time you have invested in reading about my struggle. I am surprised by how many reads this is getting every day, and I am still very grateful for everyone who has expressed any interest in my undertaking. Thank you all again.

    Weight Loss Blog - 1-29-09

Hey everyone. To anyone who still reads these, I'm sure you have noticed that I haven't posted a blog in quite some time. I have actually decided to make this a two or three times a week thing rather than an every day posting. I will be making this change so as to avoid becoming redundant in the material I post, so the blogs won't be so similar and therefore sometimes boring to read. I also won't be posting what I have eaten so much as how I am feeling in my diet's progress. I will tell you the types of food I have been eating for advice on what foods work for dieting, but not a complete recitation of every meal I ate on a given day.

So to begin let me first say that yes, I have stuck to my diet in the time off of the blog. I weighed in on Monday at 228 pounds, down from the 233 that I weighed last Monday. That means so far I have come down from 245 to 228, a 17 pound loss in just three weeks. It is hard not to be optimistic in terms of my diet when I have experienced such a significant loss in such a small amount of time. Cravings are becoming a thing of the past slowly but surely, save for the occasional short-lived longing for certain foods I have cut from my routine.

Perhaps more importantly, I am working more and more exercise into my life. I usually only work out once or twice a week, but on Wednesdays I have been teaching Jiu-Jitsu from 4:30 PM until about 9:30 or so. So five hours of martial arts certainly does the job. As I continue on my journey, I will gradually add more exercise to supplement the changes to my eating habits, but for now I feel like it is important for me to remain focused on the eating aspect until it becomes routine and not so much a thinking process.

Thank you all again for your support, and make sure to read this often. For those of you who post blogs, you know that there is a chart to the left side of the page that shows how many reads you get every day, week, and then the total reads. And I can't help but notice my weekly reads are down to five as of right now. I can't blame you because of my absence of material as of late, but now that I will be updating regularly again, you can all be sure to have some interesting things to read. I'll have another blog up for sure on Monday, if not sooner, so check back from time to time.

Haha I know this thread is really old, but I figured you guys could use an update. Unfortunately, after doing this for a while I failed miserably and ended up topping out at a weight of 252 lbs. Here are some pics.
