i understand you can say the comparison, but there is no argument about how he compares with the greats because he never fought any of them. but when thinking of a great wrestler in mma, askren isn't at the top of that list.

I agree for most people he isn't.
    I'm speculating
    but it's a fun discussion

true. I deleted my post because it wasn't the right place to have the discussion, you just got to me before I could :) dink

and I would argue, along with many people, that GSP had the most effective wrestling in MMA

Back to the topic. Floyd has one possible direction. he'd have to learn to have the best TDD in history, because that's the only thing that could save him, and even if he was 15 years younger i bet he couldn't do it well enough to be a contender anywhere in the UFC

Floyd will never be a contender in the UFC and fighting the bottom guys won't pay enough.

i don't believe, even for a moment. that he would try. it would be some hybrid shit with no grappling etc, and it would just be a clown show like the boxing match with conor.

otherwise there would never be a reason to make a fight with him. i don't buy for a second he could compete with even low tier fighters in mma

Even with hybrid rules that include no grappling, he would get slept inside a round. That turtling up shit that he pulled in the boxing match with Conor would be his demise.

Yup, his style for the last 7 or 8 years has been slip, punch, clinch, wait til Kenny Bayliss separates aaaaaaannndd repeat.

He’d get murdered in the clinch with dirty boxing, knees & elbows, guys taking his back standing & clubbing him around the ears & temples, it would be over quick. He won’t fight mma, it’s all media coverage seeking behavior.

Not to mention that soooo many of his defensive habits from boxing would have to be unlearned as they leave you open in MMA. Generally, that's why I think boxers have a longer timeline for transition than many think they do.

For a guy who worries about taking damage and long term health, can't see how he volunteers to go into MMA at this age.

FYI there's a rumor floating around about DJ vs Cejudo 2 at 225 and Mike is saying there's no truth to it.

Don't know if that was posted here or not

Rose would be a 10-1 favorite over Floyd.

Is 10-1 odds outrageous for an mma fight?

At what point does it turn into a circus show?

It's really pretty funny. There was a time when the NSAC refused to license Sylvia/Mir II because they deemed it unsafe for Mir, then Sylvia had like 2 more fights in the company and Mir got another decade fighting mostly top 10 guys. But I can't imagine a fight not happening for that kind of reasoning today.

I remember times like this when it was a question whether they could get a fight sanctioned.

Seems enough money passed through the state where those 'issues' disappeared.

i would bet on the odds of an actual fight ever happening might be close to 10-1 too.
