Anybody here use VLC or Plex with their digital media players (Apple TV, Roku, Fire, etc.)?

One of my regular customers is always raving to me about Plex but I don’t know anything about it. He has a massive server in his home with so much hard drive space, it makes my head spin and he’s always talking about Plex.

I tried it today. It's good in that I can now play MKV movie files from my desktop computer through Apple TV without having to convert them to the file format necessary for iTunes. It basically acts as a media server in the same way iTunes does. It actually reads the file in some ways superior to iTunes in that it provides all the corresponding info—cast, synopsis, etc.—for files that haven't necessarily been purchased through conventional channels.
