Found iPad - How Do I Make It Mine

I found an iPad on a bench outside of work.

    Its pass protected.

How do I unlock it, wipe it, and make it mine?

Something to keep in mind is if it's one of the newer iPads, it's probably got GPS locked on and the find my device feature could be turned on. In this case, the iPad can be found by the original owner and tracked through GPS and then you'd have some explaining to do. I know with my iPhone, I can sit at my computer and get the exact location of my phone if I lose it. I read a story about a kid that had his Macbook stolen. He remote accessed his computer and saw the guy who stole his computer through the webcam.

But if you're looking to reset the password, you'll need to force the iPad into DFU mode and do a hard restore to factory default. There should be plenty of tutorials online. But to be on the safe side, I'd contact Apple and ask if a registered user has reported their device as lost before you try and mess with it.
